Nigeria has lost a statesman as the President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, has passed on.

He was 80.

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, announced the passing of Obiozor on Wednesday night.

The deceased was formerly Nigeria ambassador to the US and Israel.

Born August 15, 1942, Obiozor studied at the Institute of African Studies, and Albert Schweitzer College. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 1969, and from Columbia University with a Ph.D. in International Affairs.

He was director-general of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. He was the high commissioner to Cyprus. He was the Nigerian ambassador to Israel, from 1999 to 2003. He was the Nigerian ambassador to the United States, from 2004 to 2008. Elected as the President General of Ohaneze ndi Igbo on Sunday 9th January,2021, a socio-cultural group was formed to cater for the welfare of the Igbo nation from Nigeria.
