A former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, has revisited the move made by the United States Government to pressure Nigeria to accept gay marriage.

Nigeria is officially against it, with anyonee caught having same sex liable to 14 years’ imprisonment.

According to Akinyemi, a top official of the government sought his intervention during the Jonathan era, when the US pressured it to decriminalise the practice.

“I told him that is no go area. We don’t like to be told what the definition of marriage is,” Akinyemi in an ongoing programme on Arise Television, monitored by phenomenal.com.ng.
