– Luis Suarez, who is set to become a free agent in January, delivered an emotional farewell to his boyhood club, Nacional de Montevideo, on Sunday.
– Suarez, 35, played a key role in winning the Uruguayan professional soccer league title for the team that first saw him debut in 2005.
– “It’s a goodbye, I’m not going to play [here] again, but I will return to the club at some point,” said Suarez in tears. “The time has come and first of all I want to thank you for everything. As I said some time ago, I was coming back because of you and because I wanted to come back.

– “Each one of you must continue to be proud that we are at a world-class level and people talk about what Nacional’s fans have done, and that is your merit.”
– Suarez then thanked his family and teammates, especially Emmanuel Gigliotti, who will get the No. 9 back now that the Uruguayan striker is leaving.
– “I want to thank my teammates,” Suarez said. “I take with me the memory of everyone and I want to thank these three wonderful beauties [his children] that my wife gave me.
– “It is a dream come true to see me become champion with the jersey with which I was born.”
– Suarez will now compete in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with Uruguay before deciding his future.
– While Suarez has previously stated that he wishes to return to a European league, an MLS move is not entirely out of the question, especially if his best friend Lionel Messi does the same.
