At a time many Nigerians were wondering what the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, would do with 28,000 special assistants especially towards the tail end of his administration, his government has increased the number to 50,000,
Many fear the appointments do not make any economic sense, while others think it could be about the upcoming elections.
But Media Aide to the Governor, Kelvin Ebiri, in a statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday confirmed the 50,000 review, adding that the appointments took immediate effect.
The conditions of service may not be clear yet but the enormity of the financial involvement is discernable at N100,000 salary for each assistant.
This, observers fear, would run into billions monthly.
