Whatever anyone may say against Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, it may be difficult to say he is a non-performer.
The reason is that he has continued his projects spree, inaugurating and commissioning such continually.
‘Going gaga’ sounds informal and exaggerating but he is being positively exuberant with it.
A day after he commissioned the Etche campus of the Rivers State University, for instance, he is again on national TV stations inaugurating the Emohua campus of the institution.
It is the Faculty of Social Sciences.
This has been his tradition in the past weeks, although he is exploiting the progress to boost his political ascension, making bold statements, and lambasting his opponents, especially Iyorchia Ayu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s Chairman who has vowed not to step down as demanded by Wike.
Among projects Wike has commissioned/inaugurated with pomp and ceremony are some 12 overhead bridges.
While costing may also be a question for the future, he has also been using reputable contractors, especially Julius Berger, which has handled his bridges.
He is also closely monitoring them.
He said on Tuesday, “I monitor the contractors bumper-to-bumper.”
Rivers State is a comparatively rich one, with a lot of big businesses and ample derivative earnings.
Some have also argued that no one should praise any President or Governor for building infrastructure, noting that they are just doing their job.
Well, others say where others may not be doing such, whoever does so deserves some acknowledgement.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is currently his guest of honour at Emuoha, where the inauguration is holding.
