Days ago, star artiste, Adekunle Gold, expressed his philosophy on how he intends to walk though life. According to him, part of his goal as a musician is to leave the world empty.
This may not mean that he would throw all his wealth into the Lagoon but that the father of one wants to leave the world empty after knowing full well that he has impacted on lives of a lot of people.
What a smart way of expressing his mind. This is indeed capable of reminding whoever has read Wole Soyinka’s great play, Death and the King’s Horseman, a similar metaphor by the cunning protagonist, Elesin Oba. That is the Abobaku, the king’s ‘Horse Man’ who should accompany the king in death, having enjoyed all royal perks with him while alive.
Before he finally tragically reneges on this golden contract with tradition, Elesin decides to covet some send-off fun. Among such, he asks the Iyaloja to get him a beautiful woman to sleep with so that he can deposit the man in him in her.
“Let me travel light,” the foot-dragging horseman says in the play now adapted into a film by Mo Abudu.
Back to Adekunle Gold’s ‘I want to leave the world empty.’ He made the comment in response to a question about how he stays motivated to keep going and what he does to stay one step ahead of the talented new artistes.
”The goal is to be timeless and just keep working. The goal is to leave this world empty…” he said.
