Amid protests by Nigerian students due to the protracted strike by university lecturers, President Buhari’s daughter-in-law, Zahra, has graduated from a UK university.

She is wife of the President’s son, Yusuf.

Although no law bars anyone from educating their children or relatives abroad, concerned stakeholders say the opportunity that a privileged parent like the President has to educate his child or ward outside the country makes him and other relevant officials care less about the state of schools in the country.

Some have canvassed banning political office holders from educating their children abroad, but it does not seem like an idea that will fly since it is the same people who will make the law that will be affected.

In recent times, children of governors, lawmakers and ministers have graduated in foreign universities while hundreds of thousands of other people’s languid at home.

Apart from losing a whole session in 2020, undergraduates have been at home since February when the other round of strike began.

Now, Zahra, has graduated from the UK school and her mother-in-law, Aisha Buhari, is very excited to celebrate her in a Facebook post.

She noted on Tuesday: “Congratulations to Mrs. Zahra Buhari on your graduation with First Class Honours in Architectural Science. Wishing you all the best!”
