Director of Strategic Communication of the Tinubu-Shettima All Progressives Congress Campaign Organisation, Mr Dele Alake, has described as non-determinant waka pass many people commenting on the 2023 elections on social media.
According to him, apart from the fact that the percentage of people on social media is low, it does not accommodate the dominant voting strata of society.
Alake said this on Tuesday when he appeared on ‘Journalists’ Hangout ‘ on TVC, as monitored by Phenomenal.com.ng, noting that many of those who gravitate towards the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi, fell in this category.
He said, “Social media is not going to determine the 2023 election. You need to just do a rational analysis of political behaviour of our people. Among those on social media, what percentage of them are going to vote? How many of them are registered? A large percentage of them are just waka pass who are there for entertainment.”
Alake argued what would decide the election was the antecedents of the candidates, noting that the APC’s Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was clearly ahead in terms of performance.
“When you are dealing with emotional appeal, you could be taken in. Even those who are gravitating towards Mr Obi, a lot of them are not analysing the antecedents of all the candidates. If you do, Peter Obi will trail far behind. This is not to label him. These are hard facts,” he said.
He noted that Tinubu’s antecedents in the development of Lagos, his contributions to the country’s democratic growth and discovering of talents stood him out.
