– There are major problems at Manchester United and the failure to sign Frenkie de Jong is just one of them, which is why Rio Ferdinand thinks those in charge at Old Trafford should move on and target other players.
– The former centre-back admitted that Manchester United can’t attract top talents, but doesn’t like they way they’ve been waiting and hoping instead of looking elsewhere, such as in the De Jong case.
– “We’re not in the market for the top players,” Ferdinand said on his podcast.

– “We’re going out and we’re waiting for three and a half months to sign Frenkie de Jong.
– “With all due respect, he’s a great player, but we’re almost whoring ourselves out for this player for three months of the transfer window with our cap in hand begging ‘Please come to us’.”
– On his latest episode, Ferdinand also spoke about Erik ten Hag and defended the coach.
– “I don’t feel sorry for the players, I feel sorry for Ten Hag,” he said.
– “He’s come in under false pretences. He’s come in expecting new signings.
– “He’s probably sitting there thinking, ‘I’ve been sold a dummy here. I didn’t know I was coming into this’.
– “He knew confidence would be low, but he thought ‘I’ll be able to rebuild that’, but obviously the players are not at the standard required. Simple as that.
– “This isn’t a result over a month or two, this is a result over a long and sustained amount of time.
– “You’ve had ample time to kind of lose form and build it back up again and come back and show us your true selves. It ain’t happening.”
– Manchester United have started the season in the worst possible way, losing 2-1 at home to Brighton and then 4-0 on the road at Brentford.
