Seasoned comedian Okey Bakassi – Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule – has lamented that he has never had the opportunity to vote for an Iboman.
It is not clear whether or not he has voted for an Iboman (Igboman) in any other capacity, but he specifically referred to one as a presidential candidate.
He spoke about this on Thursday while explaining his passion for and commitment to the candidacy of the Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Since Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999, no Iboman has been President, but Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Mohammadu Buhari have been from the two other major rival zones of the West and North – or Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani.
Observers believe that, apart from the youth-dominated search for a real new breath of life, the urge to have an Igboman in Aso Rock has heightened the Obi frenzy.

Speaking on TVC, Okey Bakassi did not hide his perspective.
According to him, he has voted for the guys from other tribes, but whenever election comes, they always say it is not yet Igbo’s turn.
He notes that he is a detribalised Nigerian but he wants to vote for an Igboman too.
He recalls how he started schooling in the North and then moved to Rivers State, then eventually to Lagos as a youths service corps member some 30 years ago.
He has since been living in the highly commercial city.
