Drake wins $1million bet on Israel Adesanya fight to end UFC gambling curse

– Millionaire rap superstar Drake broke his unfortunate high-stakes gambling streak after Israel Adesanya’s victory saw him win a $1million (£826,000) bet that was previously described as ‘light’ money.

– The Nigerian-born middleweight UFC champion beat Jared Cannonier in a largely one-sided fight that saw Adesanya claim a unanimous decision win.

– Drake would have been one of the most relieved supporters after cashing in on the high-stakes bet that ends his gambling curse following a disastrous losing streak.

– The Canadian superstar boasts a reported net worth of over $250million, so losing a seven-figure bet is probably more of a mere hinderance than a catastrophe for the 35-year-old.

– Drake bucked the trend of betting on underdogs as he raised the stakes backing hot-favourite Adesanya after previously losing $275,000 on Jorge Masvidal and $550,000 on Justin Gaethje.

– He further ramped up the pressure by telling Adesanya in a video call the day before about the bet he had made where he claimed the sum was a ‘light’ fee.

– However, Adesanya clearly felt at ease when he stepped into the octagon as he dominated his opponent from start to finish, landing 116 significant strikes on his way to victory.

– Drake told Adesanya he had bet a ‘light million’ on the fight between him and Cannonier at UFC 276.

– In the social media video between the two A-list celebrities, Drake says:

– ‘You know I put a light million up. I had to put a light mill on my brother.

– ‘Return on investment is a lock. I just want to wish you good luck.’

– Drake’s UFC gambling hoodoo may have been broken but that isn’t expected to stop the rapper from further upping the ante on the next big sporting event.
