If President Muhammadu had been seeking an opportunity to mock former President Olusegun Obasanjo, he got and seized a golden one on Thursday.
And it was in the proverbial eye of the world as the President did the deed in Kigali, Rwanda, before a global audience that included UK’s leader like Boris Johnson.
Curiously and almost undiplomatically, Johnson had asked if Buhari would still contest in 2023.
Well, perhaps Johnson had some information Nigerians might not have, otherwise, many would think that Buhari has not shown any sign to stage such a strange ambition.
As his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, notes, the President spoke during a meeting with the British Prime Minister Johnson, at the sideline of the ongoing 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali, Rwanda.
Johnson had asked if President Buhari would run for office in 2023, to which the latter responded: “Another term for me? No!
“The first person who tried it didn’t end very well.”

Without mentioning anybody’s name, all his listeners knew whom he was referring to.
Although former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied that he did not seek a third term, there have been compelling arguments that he did.
Assemblymen were, indeed, said to have been heavily bribed to that effect.
For Buhari, therefore, a golden opportunity seemed to have come to nail his friend-turned-foe, who has always also seized every opportunity to lambast him or, at least, his government.
Obasanjo supported Buhari’s election in 2015, but things soon went awry between them as Buhari was not seen to be heading the way he appeared to like.
Many have also, of course, went the OBJ way based on how things have unfolded under Buhari.
