Star musician, Tems (Temilade Openiyi) has had to postpone her UKS tour because she has ben diagnosed with Reflux laryngitis.
She disclosed this in a post on Tuesday, while apologising to her fans and other stakeholders.
A search by Phenomenal.com.ng reveals that reflux laryngitis is a voice disorder that results from irritation and swelling of the vocal folds due to the backflow of stomach fluids into the throat.
The Department of Otolaryngology, University of Pittsburg, says on the ailment:
“This backflow is called laryngopharyngeal reflux (acid that reaches the level of the throat). Stomach fluids contain acids and enzymes that help digest food in the stomach, but cause problems elsewhere in the food pipe [esophagus, throat, and voice box]. Reflux disease can be acid or non-acidic. For Acidic reflux, it is broken down into GERD and LPR. Classic GERD symptoms include heartburn. LPR symptoms are more likely throat clearing, a lump in the throat sensation, and hoarseness.”

Gravely, hoarse voice
Low pitch
Lump in the throat feeling
Burning in the throat
Excessive throat clearing
Coughing
Excessive mucous
Bitter/sour taste in the mouth
Worsening of symptoms with spicy foods
Announcing the postponement, Tems says: “Hey gang, it breaks my heart to say this but there is no other option for me,” she wrote in a post shared via her Instagram page on Tuesday.
“I’m not feeling too good at the moment. After my last performance, I was diagnosed with Reflux Laryngitis and I have to take some time off to protect what’s left of my voice.
“The new dates will be announced tomorrow. All tickets are still valid. Again I’m so sorry for this inconvenience but I promise to be back, better than ever by the grace of God. Then I’ll give you the best show ever. Appreciate you all for understanding. You mean the world to me.”
