CSO calls for transparency in palliative distribution in Ondo State

There is the fear that up to 50 people were killed on Sunday morning in an attack on a Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

The attackers were said to have hit the church with what could be a bomb, after which they started shooting indiscriminately.

As of Sunday afternoon, blood massively littered the floor of the church, while many were said to have been rushed to hospitals.

In a video streamed on Facebook by a news platform, Niger Delta Connect, a resident said he counted up to 50 bodies, saying the attackers killed even people around the church.

He said he was told that the dressing of the suspects tilted to those of groups who had been inflicting similar tragedies on different parts of the country.

Although official statements were still being expected and investigations bound to be conducted, many will recall that Ondo State has on several occasions been attacked by external forces.

This led to stringent measures by the Rotimi Akeredolu-led government, with the governor having been outspoken against killer herdsmen invasion.
