Rev Father Odia

There is sad news from the Nigerian Catholic hub again.

Gunmen have brought down another priest, this time also a gentleman principal of one of the church’s secondary school.

He was Rev Father Christopher Odia, who was killed in Edo State on Sunday morning while preparing for service.

In recent years, the Catholic Church – like some other religious groups – have been a victim of kidnappings, extortion and killings, no thanks to bandits and insurgents.

Only three weeks ago, gunmen killed 40 people in St Frances Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.

Here is how Odia’s death was announced on Sunday:

Statement By The Catholic Diocese of Auchi, 26th June 2022

With heavy hearts but with total submission to the will of God, we announce the death of our priest, Rev. Fr. Christopher Odia, who was killed by his abductors after being kidnapped this morning 26th June 2022 at about 6.30am in his rectory while coming out to go for Sunday Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church Ikabigbo, Uzairue, Edo State.

Until his death, Fr Odia was the Administrator of St Michael Catholic Church, Ikabigbo and also the Principal of St. Philip Catholic Secondary School Jattu. He was aged 41.
May his soul rest in peace.
