Man jailed 5 months for pick-pocketing

A Karu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 21-year-old man, Safilayi Ibrahim, to five months imprisonment for pick-pocketing.

The Judge, Ishaq Hassan, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine, and warned him to desist from crime.

The convict, who had no fixed address, was charged with joint act and theft.

He pleaded guilty.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Shedrack Ayande, reported the matter at the Jikwoyi Police Station on May 25.

He said the convict pickpocketed Ayande in Nyanya Market and stole his Itel cell phone worth N55,000.

The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code
