Priceless Seeds Ministeries, a Christian organisation, has donated food items and toiletries to inmates at the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja to encourage and show love to those behind bars.
Mrs Abua Laureta, President of the organisation, during a visit to the Centre on Sunday, said the donation was part of the organisation’s initiative of “putting smiles on their faces and to preach on the need to accept Christ”.
According to her, the organisation is aimed at looking out for the downcast, less-privileged, vulnerable, orphans and people that have given up in the society to encourage and give them hope.
Laureta added that the gesture was borne out of the Corporate Social Responsibility, (CSR) of the organisation to assist the inmates by providing succour through the donations.
“We are sent by God to reach out to the less-privileged for those that are cut off from the normal flow of the society.
“We are sent particularly to prisons and some years ago we went to Suleja prisons and today we have come to Kuje prisons.
“Our aim actually is to reach out to the downcast because it’s not easy to be locked in here for years, we saw some of the guys that said they have been there for seven years and just locked in a particular place,” she said.
She stressed that every Nigerian had the right to life and liberty, adding that the government should set up policies that would help in decongesting prisons in the country.
Responding, Mr Sule Abuh, the Kuje Correctional Officer, expressed gratitude to the organisation for the contribution towards ensuring that the inmates were encouraged.
Also, Mr Nelson Adoga, who spoke on behalf of other inmates, expressed gratitude to the organisation for the donation, and appealed to other well-meaning Nigerians to do same.
According to him, “the donation will go a long way to encourage and uplift our lost hope, and we call on Nigerians to come to our aid by paying some of the fines imposed on us so that we can regain our freedom.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the donation included Bibles, jotters, food, toothbrushes, toothpastes, soaps, toiletries among others.
