All Progressives Congress leaders in the North are moving fast to strengthen unity in the party and in Nigeria at large.
They have conceded the next presidential candidate slot to the South, with the governors asking all northern aspirants to withdraw.
This is a fallout of a meeting hosted Saturday night by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The decisions are coming as hours ticked towards the party’s primaries, being ushered by suspicion, fear and acrimony in some areas.
By the North’s new move, the question has now been narrowed down to whether it is South-West, South-East or South-South that will produce the presidential candidate.
Top contestants in the South-West are Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi.
In the South-East are former governors Ogbonaya Onu and Emeka Nwajiuba, while former governors and ministers Rotimi Amaechi and Akpabio are in the race from the South-South.
Among the lot, many believe the battle may be fiercer between highly established Tinubu and Buhari’s alleged candidate Osinbajo.
