A 39-year-old man, Oladipo Tope, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an unregistered Mazda car.
Tope, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 8 at about 4:00 p.m in Ado-Ekiti.
Akinwale alleged that the defendant stole the Mazda 323 car, yet to be registered and valued at N1.5 million, belonging to one Abimbola Alabi.
He said the complainant gave the defendant the money to get a car for him from Lagos, but the defendant told the complainant that on his way back, he was attacked by armed robbers who snatched the car from him.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 302(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the Court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Sunday Balogun, urged the Court to grant the defendant bail and promised that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till July 1 for hearing.
