A 27-year-old man, Nasiru Maraya, on Monday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged breach of peace and stealing.
Maraya, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 11 at about 10:30 hours at Odo Ado Area in Ado-Ekiti.
Adejare alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace.
He also said the defendant stole two iron rod belonging to the Old Local Government Secretariat Odo Ado, valued at N20,000.
Adejare said that the offences contravened Sections 249(D) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Tope- Almeel Salami, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that the defendant would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum.
Bamidele adjourned the case until May 25 for hearing.
