The Kaduna State Government on Friday launched a Human Capital Capacity Building Project in Kauru Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, said the project was a joint initiative of the State Human Capital Development Council and some stakeholders from Kauru LGA.
She said the project sought to use sensitisation and advocacy to advance human capital development across the breadth and length of the LGA.
The deputy governor noted that there was a direct correlation between human capital development and economic growth.
Balarabe said that was why the state government was investing in education, health, talent development, skills acquisition and economic empowerment.
According to her, human capital index indicates that out of 189 countries, Nigeria came 161st , beating only 27 countries.
“We are desirous of having a human capital that will ensure that the economy not only in Kauru but the whole LGA and the state is improved upon.
“What we are doing here is to provide information, increase their knowledge of what human capital is in the whole instance,“ she said.
Balarabe also urged traditional leaders to support the programme and also sensitise the people so that they could accept it and be able to build themselves, acquire skills, knowledge and good health.
She said that studies carried out years ago showed that Kauru was the least in all aspects of development, in education, health and basic infrastructure and that was why the programme was approved for the LGA.
“We took up this responsibility of encouraging them to access health and as the saying goes `health is wealth`.“ she said.
She advised Kauru people to take the programme seriously and run it so that they could be an example of what capacity development advocacy and sensitisation could do to people in terms of human capital development.
The deputy governor also called on the people of the LGA to ensure that every child that was of school age was enrolled in school.

She advised pregnant women and nursing mothers to always visit hospitals for antenatal, child delivery and routine immunisation of their babies.
NAN reports that the event was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, community and religious leaders from Kauru LGA.
