KAKAWA: A poem in celebration of iconic Nigeria’s newspapers arena in Lagos

KAKAWA

By Akeem Lasisi

To inform is to empower

To be informed is to be rich

So, this song is for you, Kakawa,

The unsung pantheon of our acclaimed press.

Without your accommodating platform,

Where would Times have got its fame?

How could The Guardian project its flag?

Where would Punch have got the gut to punch?

Like a blessed mum, Kakawa

Your gave ThisDay its daily bread

Tribune found a home in your friendly tent.

Thrusting Trust to the mainstream,

You gave the SUN its tabloid shine

From Vanguard to Telegraph from TELL from NEWS

Blessed we say is thy enduring soil

That projects The Nation to the reading world.

Blessed indeed is the Lagos soil

That offers the media a breaking breath.
