Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has vowed to fight the battle money-for-money.
According to him, he has returned to the scene with money for the people, saying he would fight naira-for-naira and dollar-for-dollar.
He said this while campaigning in the state, as seen in an online video.
The electorate are heard in the video hailing him for the declaration.
Many watchers of the political adventures in the state would note that Adeleke could be banking on the wealth of his brother, Deji Adeleke, a billionaire businessman who is also the father of start musician, Davido.
The boast is, however, not going down well with some stakeholders.
One of such is media executive, Bamidele Johnson, who tackles him for so brazenly advertising money politics.
Johnson says in a Facebook post on Thursday:
I’m probably the only one who’s just seeing the video in which Demola Adeleke, the mammoth-bellied guy seeking to become Osun State governor boast-sadly to loud cheers, of having brought in tonnes of money for his project.
He’s brought in pounds, dollars and Euro, he said, with which he plans to take on the opposition. He didn’t surprise me, as he’s been a consistently vacuous person. I actually think it’s unfair to expect from him any talk of transformative ideas, even if he didn’t mean such.
His governorship bid is constructed around rigorous wiggling of his body in the name of dancing. Not a bad thing. Perhaps. What is bad is that those cheering him, thinking of him, as coming to put out the fire that has been burning them are unable to see that he’s more of an arsonist.
Did he inherit an oil bloc, gold mine or he’s chummy with a Putin-made oligarch, which gives him access to something like a mint? Of course not. He’s from a wealthy family, but he’s not known to have run on his own steam. Even if he had, it would be unlikely that he’s suddenly suffered a bout of philanthropy and willing to blow all on Osun State. He’s most likely coming hollow out the not exactly robust purse of the state by first recouping what he’ll spend on the election.
That is the way the Nigerian politician runs the game. Those cheering him will cry later. Defo.
