Star actress-turned Islamic crusader, Kabirah Kafidipe, popularly known as Araparegangan, has debunked a rumour that she has a romantic relationship with popular actor and producer, Kunle Afolayan.
Both hit the limelight when they acted in Tunde Kelani’s classical movie, ‘Saworo Ide’, as young royal friends in a love aborted by power schemers.
That was over two decades ago but some people still believe their ‘relationship’ continued outside location.
Afolayan has risen to become one of Nigeria’s/Africa’s biggest film producers while Kabirah has also produced some six movies, but has abandoned secular work for Islamic ones.
In an interview with BBC, she concedes that certain people indeed have said it to her face that she and Afolayan have a relationship.

“Some of them even said I have up to three children for him, and that he has a place for me in Ibadan,” she notes.
She, however, says emphatically that there has never been any romantic affair between them, adding that Afolayan remains like a brother to him.
Kabirah does not identify with any film that does not conform to Islamic tenets again.
She dresses only Islamically and will hardly be found in environments worldly.
According to her, she got called by Allah after completing the production of her film, ‘Bintu’ and, since then, there has been no cause to look back.
She has been so strong in faith that she no more acts in even in the films of Tunde Kelani, whom she describes as her third father.
While she organises advocacy programmes for Islam and has since completed Koranic/Arabic studies, she has produced some two films situated in her new world.
One of such is ‘A Date with Asmau’ and she is about to release another one.
Her earlier films, co-produced with her sister Aisha, include ‘Oga’, ‘Iwalewa’ and ‘Malaika’.
Kabirah, who also stars in Akeem Lasisi’s bridal poetry, ‘Ekun Iyawo’, also sells fabrics.
