The police, on Thursday, arraigned a 40-year-old man, Ojo Adeyemo, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing iron rods, valued at N18,000.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 14 at about 04:00 a.m. at Matthew Street in Ado-Ekiti.
Olasunkanmi said that the defendant stole some irons, valued at N18,000, belonging to one Jude Peter.
He said that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Funmilayo Akinwumi, urged the court to grant her client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Michael Faola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
