The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has finally declared his intention to run for presidency in 2023.
He made the declaration early Monday morning, confirming speculations that had hitherto surrounded the ambition.
With the declaration, he is running against his former boss, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who had earlier declared so on the platform of the same party – the All Progressives Congress..
“I am today, with utmost humility formally declaring my intention to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of All Progressives Congress,” Osinbajo said.
He made the declaration in a short broadcast shared via his Twitter handle after months of intense speculations.
The battle promises to be intriguing between the two, although some other people, including Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello and Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, hsve also declared intention.
The Tinubu-Osinbajo clash will enrich discussions on intrigues surrounding godfatherism in Nigerian politics.
While Tinubu is known to be an astute party man who has been investing in his aspiration since a long time ago, Osinbajo is believed to be the candidate of his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, and his men.
