The Ondo State Government expects a bagful of medals from the state’ athletes at the ongoing National Para Games in Abuja, an official said on Sunday in Akure.
Bamidele Ologun, the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, said it was in line with this that he delivered to the athletes the goodwill message of Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
“Our governor encouraged the athletes to put in their best to ensure that they came back with enough gold medals for the state,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the games, now in its maiden edition, began on Saturday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, and will end on Friday.
The commissioner added that he was happy that Akeredolu gave the state’s physically-challenged athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents, urging them to be good ambassadors of the state.
He disclosed that on his part he has promised athletes who won gold medals at the games some monetary reward.
Ologun commended the state’s Agency for the Welfare of Persons with Disability, and the Ondo State Sports Council for their collaboration.

“Their efforts helped to ensure the participation of the state’s special athletes in the first edition of the Para Games in Nigeria,” he said.
