The Director-General (D-G) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has advised corps members to identify the needs of their host communities in order to be able to impact meaningfully on them.
Ibrahim gave the advice on Thursday in Emure-Ekiti in his speech delivered by the Coordinator of the scheme in the state, Mrs Mary Chikezie, at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch A orientation course.
He urged the corps members, as they are set to report at their primary places of assignment, to be diligent in the discharge of their duties.
“As you are set to report at your various places of primary assignment, I wish to stress the need for you to be diligent in the performance of your duties.
“I urge you to integrate with your host communities by learning their languages and culture.
“Further more, you should devote time to identify the needs of the communities and initiate personal and group community service projects that will uplift their living standard,”Ibrahim said.
He, however, warned the corps members to shun any act that could jeopardise their security and safety.
The NYSC boss said corps members must avoid risky engagement, staying out late at night, attending night parties, visiting dangerous places and accepting free rides from strangers, among others.
He also warned them against social vices,p such as: drug abuse, cyber crimes, trafficking and advanced fee fraud, saying whoever that is found guilty would be made to face the full wrath of the by-laws of the scheme.
He said: “I enjoin you to be law abiding and be good ambassadors of the NYSC.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reporrts that no fewer than 1,804 corps members participated in the 2022 Batch A orientation course held at Emure-Ekiti.
