A 24-hour strike targeting the transport network began in Greece on Wednesday in protest against the rising cost of living.
Ferries are to remain in ports and many islands will therefore be cut off from the mainland until midnight on Wednesday, local media reported.
Railway and public transport workers in major cities also went on strike for 24 hours.
Air traffic would not be affected by the stoppage, however.
Government offices and other state bodies would also remain closed on Wednesday, according to the unions.

The strikes which were taking place under the slogan “wages are not enough, bills cannot be paid’’ were called by two trade union confederations of the state and private sectors (ADEDY and GSEE).
