The German and Norwegian football federations want to actively cooperate in setting up a relief fund for victims of the FIFA World Cup construction sites in Qatar and their relatives.
Lise Klaveness, the head of the Norwegian association, said she reached an agreement with Bernd Neuendorf, president of the German football federation (DFB), during a phone call.
The goal is to fund a migrant workers’ centre and to compensate the families of the victims.
Klaveness agreed with Neuendorf that the planned aid fund was “of the utmost importance.”
She has previously voiced clear criticism of world governing body FIFA and Qatar at the FIFA Congress in Doha at the end of March.
“We will tackle this together,” Klaveness said.
She added that it should be ensured “that families of killed and injured workers are adequately compensated.”
World Cup hosts Qatar have been criticised for years because of the human rights situation and the conditions for foreign workers in the country.
“International football urgently needs to stand up for values,” Klaveness said.

“It is important that we form alliances with several associations and act as watchdogs. We have to live up to our responsibility and advance overdue fundamental debates,” she said.(
