Badagry Command, on Thursday, decorated five of its newly-promoted officers with their new ranks.
Addressing the affected officers at the command’s office in Badagry, the Unit Commander, Mr Sulaiman Taiwo, described the promotion as an act of God.
According to him, there is every reason to thank God for the promotion “because if you work hard without God, you cannot achieve success without him.
“The Corps Marshal had promised us three tiers of martial when he attained the leadership of FRSC; these are reward, punishment and promotion.
“Through this principle, there is no more stagnancy in the corps again.
“Before now, some officers had spent close to eight years without getting promoted to their next ranks but now, promotion is annual.
“The corps marshal has graciously maintained this principle since he attained the mantle of leadership by rewarding officers who have worked tirelessly in order to improve the corps’ mandate,” he said.
Taiwo urged the newly-promoted officers to live up to the expectations of the corps.
“Promotion is an additional responsibility; you have to be more responsible now.
“It is expected that you will put in more efforts in achieving the corporate strategic goal of FRSC. Our mission has not changed, while our vision still remains the same.
“You need to put in more efforts in reducing road crashes to a minimal level. You will need to exercise your authority as officers and work in harmony with others,” he said.
Speaking at the occasion, the Commanding Officer, 15 Field Engineer Regiment, Nigerian Army, Topo, Badagry, Lt.-Col. Mohammed Bello, urged the newly-promoted officers to be more dedicated and committed to their job.
“Deal gently with members of the public because one day you will retire and become one of them.
“You should also think of your retirement and start planning now,” he said.
Also, the Assistant Comptroller of Correctional Centre, Badagry, Mr Richard Sanni, urged them to be more responsible in the discharge of their duties, adding: “To whom much is given, much more is expected.”
In his own remarks, Mr Sunday Adegboyega, representing the Badagry Office of Department of State Security (DSS), urged the officers to collaborate with sister agencies to ensure safety in Badagry and environs.
One of the affected officers, Mr Sulaiman Abdullahi, expressed happiness over his promotion.
Abdullahi who is now a Superintendent Route Commander (SRC), urged other officers of the unit to be hardworking, courageous and follow the rules and regulations of the corps.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that representatives of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Nigeria Customs Service, Correctional Centre, Badagry, Department of State Services, Nigeria Immigration Service and Police Force graced the occasion.

NAN also reports that wives of the promoted officers also assisted the unit commander in decorating their husbands.
