The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC) has donated no less than 3,000 exercise books to the International School, University of Lagos (ISL), as part of its efforts to promote education.
The National Director of Programmes, UN-POLAC, Mrs Patricia Agu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday in Lagos that the donation was aimed at promoting and sustaining peace through education.
Agu said that the initiative, which was the organisation’s school-readiness project sought to invest in education for children in order to help reduce social vices.
“When the children are educated, they will keep away from crimes as well.
“We are also trying to alleviate poverty in our country by investing in education as well as ameliorating the burdens on parents,” she said.
Agu said that the initiative would be extended to other schools across the state.
Also, Mr Emmanuel Okegbue, the UN-POLAC Youth Ambassador, said that one of the essential mandates of the organisation was the need for sustainable development and improvement that would promote the culture of peace and security.
Okegbue, an ex-pupil of ISL, cautioned individuals in various walks of life against forgetting their alma maters; that they should strive to contribute to their infrastructural developments.
“If this is done in different institutions nationally, there will be an improvement,” he said.
The management of the school expressed their appreciation to the organisation that donated the exercise books.
