A philanthropist, Dr Chukwuma Ifeanyi-Odii, has said that giving to the needy and the less privileged will foster unity and harmony in the society.
Ifeanyi-Odii said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.
“Humanitarian works are paths that open doors to the giver and elicits hope to the receiver.
“Africans should emulate the Western World that has made it as an obligation to establish individual and corporate foundations through which societal lacks and individual needs are usually met,’’ he said.
Ifeanyi-Odii said by doing that, they would be fostering peace and even development for businesses to flourish in their societies.
Ifeanyi-Odii, the Founder of Ebele and Anyichuks Foundation (EAF), said that subsisting happenings in the society informed the establishment of EAF 15 years ago.
He said that within that period, the foundation had built over 130 homes for the indigents in the rural communities of Ebonyi.
He added that the foundation had also built schools, funded 500 start-up businesses, provided scholarships for 1,000 students (home and abroad) and performed other sundry services.
He said that the humanitarian activities had not reduced his earnings in any way, but had widened his business stakes.
“It is biblical to render assistance to others to attain uncommon progress that only God can explain.
“It is wrong for one to belief that only government will provide all that we need as there are various societal needs calling for attention.
“Showing love to one another through charity is devotion I have taken with passion and which I will like to be remembered for by humanity,” he said.
He said that youth unemployment in the country was a social deformity.

He said that it could be taken care of with the collaboration of multi-nationals doing businesses in the country, as well as forming foundations in various strata of the nation’s economy to alleviate social hardships
