“Givers never lack. This is even as giving connects people to Christ and has both immediate and futuristic implications.”
These were the words of a Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Anthony Okoliko, while enjoining Nigerians to cultivate the habit of giving and community service.
He spoke in Lokoja weekend at a Civic Reception/ Dinner in honour of a Philanthropist, Ambassador Gabriel David Onoja by the Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kogi State council.
Okoliko who is Director of Social Communication, Catholic Diocese of Idah urged people to emulate charitable acts, noting that “no one is too poor to give.”
Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Mr. Gabriel Idachaba commended Onoja for establishing Enemona Foundation. He added that the foundation has changed the stories of many vulnerable groups made up of students, widows, ooharns, the sick and the poor.
Idachaba called on better placed persons in the society to lend a helping hand to the needy emphasizing that government alone cannot solve all human problems.
State Chairman of NUJ, Com. Adeiza Momoh-Jimoh also applauded Onoja for his selfless humanitarian gestures and wished him success in all spheres of endeavours. He assured everyone involved in charity of the support and partnership of the media.
An obviously elated Onoja thanked the media for the honour and proper coverage of his foundation. He said he has been living a life of giving from childhood explaining that his major inspiration is a desire to make others happy.
“I am not involved in this because I am too rich or because of politics. I am just being natural. Seeing others happy makes me happy.” He revealed.
The ceremony was graced by dignitaries from far and wide including ‘Mummy J’, an Octogenerian from the United Kingdom and Hon. David Idris Zacharias, a member of the House of Representatives.
