The Police Command in Jigawa has advised car owners to be cautious following the incessant cases of car theft in the state.
The Spokesman of the Command, ASP Lawan Shiisu, gave the advice during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Saturday.
Shiisu warned residents who own cars, particularly in Dutse, the state capital, that some unscrupulous elements have devised means of stealing cars in the state.
“The Jigawa State Police Command wishes to draw the attention of members of the public on the recent rise in theft of motor vehicles by a group of unidentified miscreants within Dutse metropolis and other places.
“People who own motor vehicles are advised to be cautious as these unscrupulous elements have deviced ways to dispossess people of their motor vehicles sometimes from their residential apartments where vehicles are parked,” Shiisu said.
He explained that the command, as one of its cardinal duties of protecting lives and property, would continue to remind the general public, especially car owners, to act with keen interest, device strategies of securing their vehicles.
This, the spokesperson said will include installing tracking devices, parking vehicles in a secured environment, using commercial parking spaces by those with no adequate space to park their vehicles.
Others are using improvised locally-made padlocks, automatic sensor keys, among other means, to secure heir vehicles.
According to him, the command would continue to finetune its crime fighting strategies with a view to maintaining relative peace and security in the state.

“The command, under the able leadership of Commissioner of Police Aliyu Sale, is doing everything possible to clamp down on those undesirable elements and ensure that those arrested face the full wrath of the law,” Shiisu added.
