Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state has tasked women in the state to reflect on the challenges confronting them with a view to taking measures towards finding solutions.
The Governor said this on Tuesday in Gombe in a statement issued to mark the 2022 International Women’s Day.
“The occasion is not just a day to celebrate women, but to also reflect on the challenges they face, and implement workable solutions towards addressing them and removing barriers that impede their success.
“My administration subscribes to gender mainstreaming, and is committed to ensuring ease of access to resources and opportunities to women, including economic participation and decision-making,” he said.
The Governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing opportunities for women in decision-making and economic participation in the state.
He described women as wonderful partners in the onerous task of nation-building, adding that in Gombe State, women were given key cabinet positions.
According to the governor, giving women key appointments is a clear demonstration of the fact that “we subscribe to gender mainstreaming and women empowerment.”
He encouraged women to remain positive and focused, as well as use their talents and motherly disposition in contributing to societal growth.
Yahaya assured his administration’s commitment towards ensuring the promotion of policies and programmes that would address their needs and challenges.
He noted that the theme of the 2022 International Women’s Day, “Break The Bias,” was timely because it was aimed at promoting an equitable world, free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
