A 47-year-old carpenter, David John, has appeared in a Kubwa Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly cheating a customer of N160, 000.
The Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Agunloye Wemimo reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station sometime in 2020.
Okpa said that the defendant deceived the complainant into delivering N160, 000 to him to construct 20 pieces of chairs and tables for her school, Peter Harvard International School, Kubwa.
The prosecution counsel said that instead the defendant fraudulently converted the money to his personal use, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 321 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Defence Counsel, Pascal Ngwu, prayed the court to admit his client to bail pursuant to Section 168 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and said that a reliable surety would be provided if granted.
The judge, Muhammad Adamu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N150, 000 with one surety whom must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Adamu said the address of the surety must be verified by the prosecution counsel and adjourned the case until May 4 for hearing.
