The Sir Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship (KIF) Alumni, on Friday donated hearing aids to 30 impaired patients in Kaduna.
Zaliha Lawal, a member of the KIF 3rd Cohort, said the hearing aids were provided with the support of Ronchess Global Resources Plc, Ear Care Foundation and National Ear Care Centre.
Lawal recalled that the fellows had in 2021 provided ear care services to 200 people in Badikko community in Kaduna.
“After further diagnosis, 27 were detected to have acute hearing deficiency.
“Today we are able to provide hearing aids, ear mould, batteries and free post services for the beneficiaries,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Adewumi Lucia, appreciated the Fellows for the gesture, saying it would give them a good life.
“Most of us have these challenge for long and cannot afford the hearing aids because it is very expensive, but we are happy today our lives have changed,” she said.
Dr Bashir Mohammed of the National Ear Care Centre said, “this is a commendable act because each of these hearing aids cost N160,000 to N200,000.”
He advised people to report cases at earliest stage to avoid hearing loss.
Mohammed said the beneficiaries will be taught how to take care of the hearing aids, including keeping it away from water.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship is a one-year non-partisan leadership training programme for young Nigerians between the age of 25-35 years.

The one-year Fellowship aims to create a network of high potential young Nigerians who are expected to rise to top leadership positions in the public sector and other spheres of activity over the next decade.
It was initiated by the Kaduna State Government in 2018.
