Mary Ajayi of University of Lagos (Unilag) on Thursday won the Gold medal in the 1,500m women’s final at the ongoing Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) in Lagos.

Ajayi, returned with a time of 4.54.90 seconds to lead the field in the event, while Rhoda Adisa of the University of Port Harcourt, won the Silver medal with a time of 4.55.08 seconds.

Bukola Bello of Adekunke Ajasin University, Akungba, won the Bronze medal, returning with a time of 5.13.87 seconds in the event.

Adisa also represented her school in 10,000m race where she won the gold medal and in judo where she won the silver medal.

Ajayi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that she was surprised with her victory in the vent at the fiesta, noting that it was her first time representing her school at NUGA.

“I am so overwhelmed I won this race. I never expected that I would come out as the best. It was not easy, but I tried my best.

“I really trained hard for this NUGA game but I thank God I came out winning. It is as a result of hard work and I won’t back-pedal,” she said.
