Court jails 19-yr old labourer 9 months for stealing

An Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos, on Monday sentenced a labourer, Patrick Afo, 19, to nine months imprisonment for stealing.

Judge Irene Pati sentenced the convict after he admitted guilt of charges of burglary and theft and begged for leniency.

Pati, however, gave the convict an option of N 15, 000 fine for the first charge of shop breaking and the option of N 10, 000 fine for the second charge of theft.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Monday Dabit, told the court that the case was reported at the A Division Police Station, Jos, on Jan. 31, by the complainants, Angela Okeke and three others.

He told the court that the complainants said on Jan. 30, the defendant along with his accomplice, John Daniel, now at large, burgled their various shops and made away with items valued at N 83,440.

The police prosecutor told the court that during police investigation the defendant confessed committing the crime.
