NDLEA arrests wanted Abia drug supplier, seizes 100kg of cocaine, cannabis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Thursday preferred a one-count charge of drug trafficking against a 51-year-old trader, Surajo Mohammed.

The defendant is accused of being in illegal possession of substances restricted by law.

The charge is signed by the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan.

He alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 20, 2021, at the Alaba Rago market in Ojo, Lagos.

The prosecution said a volume of Cannabis sativa weighing 941.15 kg was seized from the defendant who was found in possession of same.

He said that the defendant was consequently arrested and detained.

According to the prosecution, Cannabis is classified as a restricted narcotics or psychotropic substance similar to cocaine, heroin and other hard drugs prohibited by law.

The offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The Act provides for a penalty of life imprisonment if found guilty of the offence.

The charge had been assigned to Justice Yellin Bogoro but no date has been fixed for arraignment of the defendant.
