Drug peddling: 37-year-old pleads guilty to crime, begs court for mercy

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo on Friday sentenced a 47-year-old man, Olaniyan Ashimolowo, to four years imprisonment for defrauding a woman of N420,000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olajumoke Somefun, noted that all evidence in court proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty of the charges.

Somefun, thereafter, sentenced Ashimolowo, who had pleaded guilty to a three count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing, to four years imprisonment without option of fine.

Earlier the Prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the convict committed the offences on April 14, 2021 at Oke-ilewo, Kuto in Abeokuta.

Shonibare said that Ashimolowo obtained the sum of N420,000 from one Oloyode Mariam under false pretence to solve her spiritual problem.

He said that the offences contravened Sections, 516, 419, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State 2006
