Popular fuji musician, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, has recalled some of the challenges he encountered while starting his musical career.
According to him, some people did not believe in his talent and ability, as they gave him different negative names.
He particularly recalls how he was dubbed a noisemaker when he was in Mushin, Lagos.
‘The Nation’ quotes him in an interview in which he notes that Wasiu Ayinde’s Talazo ’84 inspired him to become an artiste:
“After secondary school, my parents could not afford to sponsor me to a higher institution. So, I went on playing music without knowing what the future held for me but I was determined to be famous like K1 De Ultimate.”
“Talazo ’84.’ “That album inspired me as an up and coming musician. So, I started writing my own songs. That year, when I started, people called me ‘backstreet singer’, ‘gutter artiste’ or noisemaker. Some landlords would chase us away from their streets whenever we wanted to perform.”
The orobokibo singer says he has recorded 60 albums in his 37 years on the beat.
