Scavenger sneaks into man’s house while sleeping in Abuja, steals his phone

A Karu Grade I Area Court, Abuja on Thursday sentenced an 18-year-old scavenger, Yusuf Usman to four months imprisonment for attempting to steal a cell phone worth N5,000.

The convict, who had no fixed address, pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and attempted theft.

The judge, Mr Inuwa Maiwada, did not give the convict an option of fine.

He ordered Usman to undergo an indepth religious knowledge study for character transformation.

Maiwada warned him to desist from committing crimes.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Danladi Danita, who lives in Maitama, Abuja, reported the matter at the Maitama Police Station, Abuja on Jan. 1.

He said that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s house while he was sleeping and attempted to steal his itel phone.

The offence, he said contravened the provisions of sections 348, 95 and 288 of the Penal Code.
