A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Sir Oladipo Okpeseyi, has donated a church building to his community in Usen in Ovia South-West of Edo.
Speaking at the dedication of the building on Sunday in Usen, Okpeseyi thanked God for the privilege of erecting the structure.
“On behalf of the family of the late Edward Okpeseyi of Usen, I present this gift in thanksgiving to God, the Creator of heaven and earth,” he said.
The legal luminary also said that the project was the manifestation of God’s grace on the descendants of Madam Aidegueomo Okpeseyi, whom he described as “one of the earliest Christians, if not the first, in Usen town’.
He said that the church was built to re-establish and assert the preeminence of Church Missionary Society, now Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), in the town.
Okpeseyi further stated that the aim of building the church was to win souls for Christ and serve humanity.
“This church, aside from making history, will also bring together the people of Usen from far and near.
“I am ready to build primary and secondary schools as well as a university, with the help of God”, Okpeseyi said.
Earlier, Bishop of the Diocese of Benin, (Anglican Communion) in Usen, Rt. Rev. Peter Imasuen, advised Christians to serve God and humanity faithfully.

He said that the church would be named: Okpeseyi Memorial Anglican Church as a mark of honour to the donor and as a remembrance to his father, the late Pa Edward Okpeseyi.
“I am happy that the Lord has smiled on the people of Usen town. He will direct us on how to use this edifice,” he said.
The cleric appreciated Okpeseyi and prayed that the church would continue to win souls for Christ.
The Olu Awure of Usen kingdom, Oba Alayeoluwa, thanked God for giving Okpeseyi the strength to build the church which, he said, would connect all the sons and daughters of the town all over the world.
Also speaking, District Governor, Lions Club International District, Mrs Lynda Odu-Okpeseyi, appreciated God and the donor for building such an edifice in the community.
“I am proud of the Okpeseyi family,” she said, adding that the new church building would assist the people of Usen to serve God better.
