Mr Babatunde Aina, the proprietor, Great Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin, has called for the protection of teachers against harassment and assaults from members of the public.
Aina, who made the call in Ilorin on Saturday in an interview with phenomenal called for sanctions against parents or students who assault or embarrass teachers.
According to him, most parents are fond of harassing teachers who discipline their wards when they behave rudely.
“Education stakeholders must find a means of protecting the teachers. They are often victims of assault and harassment for doing the right thing.
“Teachers deserve to be celebrated and respected by members of the public. They should not be ridiculed for helping to shape the future of students.
“There should be a law and a serious penalty against any parent, guardian or student who assaults or embarrasses teachers. We need to protect them from being disgraced,” he said.

He also called on school owners to put in place adequate measures for the safety of teachers against threats from members of the public.
The proprietor advised parents to accord teachers the necessary respect that they deserved and stop rushing to schools assault or insult them at the slightest provocation.
“If you keep mounting unnecessary pressure on teachers for scolding your children, you are ruining the future of the children.
“Most children lack moral values because of undue protection and pampering by their parents,” he said.
