A 33-year-old man, Femi Ogunleye, on Thursday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun charged with stealing a Honda motorcycle valued at N100,000.
Ogunleye, whose address was not provided, is facing trial over alleged stealing and breach of the peace, but pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 16, 2021 at noon at Abiri Ogudu Road, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the defendant stole an unregistered Honda motorcycle with Engine No: JA40E3146543, belonging to Mr Lekan Adegoroye.
He said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to breach public peace when he failed to return the motorcycle after he was sent an errand with it.
Abdullahi said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

He promised that his client would not jump bail and provide reliable sureties.
The Magistrate, Mr A. A. Ayeni, granted the defendant N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Ayeni further ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case to Feb. 22 for mention.
