For an alumnus of the University of Jos, Jibrin Okutepa, it is time to pay the institution back in a novel way.

He has offered to provide free legal services to the university during the tenure of Prof. Tanko Ishaya, the Vice-Chancellor of the university

Deputy Registrar Abdullahi Abdullahi of Information and Publication of the university announced this in a statement in Jos.

Abdullahi said that Okutepa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), made the promise when the vice- chancellor and other management staff of university visited his chamber in Abuja.

Abdullahi said that the legal luminary, who attributed the feats he had so far achieved to the university, stressed the need to give back to the institution that contributed largely in moulding him.

He said that Okutepa described the vice-chancellor as a thoroughbred professional and one of the leading Computer Forensic and Data Security experts in Nigeria.

He added that vice-chancellor had made so much contributions toward the development of the Nigerian university system.

“I have worked with Prof. Tanko in the past and found him to be a very reliable and trustworthy academician who is more interested in improving society rather than seeking personal enrichment.

“My team and I are willing and always available to provide unbiased legal opinion to the university on any matter that may end up in litigation,” he said.

He enjoined the university authority to mobilise other alumni of the institution who are occupying influncial positions to support it whenever the need arises.

Abdullahi said that vice-chancellor thanked Okutepa for offering himself to work for them free or charge.

Ishaya said that the gesture was a great relief to the institution, owing to the huge resources spent on legal services.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Okutepa obtained a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) degree in 1990 from University of Jos and attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2011.

Okutepa is the Principal Partner/Managing Solicitor and Advocate at J.S. Okutepa (SAN) and Company, one of the leading law firms in Nigeria.
