In line with a Yoruba proverb that ‘Agba kii wa loja k’ori omo tuntun o wo’, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has intervened in the feud between the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and his wife, Olori Silekunola Naomi.
Naomi says she is fed up with the marriage, thus exposing the royal family to anxiety and some criticism.
While there are reports that the families have met in Akure, new insights show that the Deji is makin some moves to settle the matter.
According to his media aide, Michael Adeyeye, the monarch has met with each of the parties, with a promise that Naomi will soon return to the palace in Ife.
‘The Punch’ quotes him as saying, “Yes, the chairman council of Obas in the state, the Deji of Akureland personally paid a private visit to both parties and the matter was discussed and being ironed out. The process is ongoing and all the tension has gone down.”
Naomi had gone on social media to announce the separation, accusing the king of unexpected behaviour.
But the palace initially denied the development, while it later wondered why the Olori had to go online to announce a ‘divorce’.
