Edo Government, through its Skills Development Agency (Edojobs), has set up a fashion and style centre to create jobs and boost fashion industry in the state.
Phenomenal reports that the fashion and style center was set up by in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ)’s Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE)!.
The Director of Edojobs, Mr Omole Niyi, while inaugurating the centre in Benin on Saturday, said the initiative is to create a conducive place where youths could make garments as a source of livelihood.
“This is aimed towards creating employment opportunities in Edo through Information Technology Communications (ITC), skills acquisition and creative industry in line with Gov. Godwin Obaseki’s policy in the state.
“This is just one of such initiatives. We have garment production factory where our youths that are interested in fashion can come and learn.
“They will be trained and at the same time use our machines to produce for their customers and make monies for themselves.

“The GIZ is ready to partner with us in training our youths on modern ways of sewing and on fashion industry generally.
“Those who are already into fashion can come and make use of our modern equipment once they apply through the Edojobs platform,” he said.
Niyi urged interested candidates to log on to Edojobs online platform, register and they would be invited for the training, adding that this is better than giving them starter packs.
“We have different partners who have fashion industries or fashion hubs in the state and beneficiaries would be trained in the locations.
“The training will run for a minimum of six months after which we expect that they should be able to make money for themselves,” he said.
